Student Conference Travel Awards for the Biofabrication 2023 Conference

Aim
The purpose of the ISBF’s Travel Awards is to foster the careers of students and trainees in the field of biofabrication by encouraging them to participate in the 2023 Biofabrication Conference to further develop their scientific minds, interact with other scientists in the field, establish networking and refine their presentation skills.

Eligibility
Eight travel awards will be given to students/trainees this year. All eligible individuals are encouraged to apply. In order to be eligible for the award, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled as a student OR currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in training
  • Actively involved in any area of Biofabrication
  • Have an abstract accepted for presentation at Biofabrication 2023 Saskatoon, Canada
  • Confirmed attendance at the Biofabrication 2023 conference

Prize

  • Monetary award intended for use to defray travel costs incurred while presenting at the 2023 Biofabrication Conference in Saskatoon, Canada:
    • $500 to applicants from local regions (Canada and USA)
    • $900 to applicants from out-of region (rest of the world)
  • Recognition at the 2023 Biofabrication Conference Closing Ceremony
  • A Certificate from the ISBF

Application Contents
The application must include the following in a single *.PDF file:

  1. Affiliation and Contact – no more than one page (form on Biofabrication 2023 Awards webpage)
  2. Curriculum Vitae – no more than 4 pages (11 point font, 1.0 inch margins)
  3. One Letter of Recommendation (doctoral or postodoctoral advisor encouraged)
  4. One page Personal Statement (11 point font, 1.0 inch margins)
  5. Accepted Abstract

Application Procedures and Deadlines
The nomination messages must have a send date and time no later than 11:00PM July 19th, 2023 US Pacific Time to the Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Gabriella Lindberg ([email protected]). Notification of Award: August 9th, 2023. All awardees selected by the ISBF’s Awards Committee must confirm registration, attendance, and presentation with the ISBF Awards Committee Chair at the 2023 Biofabrication Conference to receive an award. Once meeting registration. Attendance, and accepted abstract are confirmed, if necessary due to travel constraints, the awardee they may inform the Awards Committee Chair of the name of a colleague who will accept their award at the Closing Ceremony.

Selection Criteria
The candidates will be evaluated by the ISBF’s Awards Committee, consisting of 7 members. If a nominator or letter writer is on the Awards Committee, they cannot vote on or discuss their nominee but can rank the other nominees.  Selection will be on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Outstanding achievements
  • Quality and significance of the “accepted” 2023 Biofabrication Conference abstract
  • Innovation of the research reported in the abstract

Award Announcement and Presentation
Award winners will be notified by the ISBF 2023 Meeting Organizing Committee on July 26, 2023 and the award will be announced on the Biofabrication 2023 website the week of September 11th, 2023 and subsequently on the ISBF website.
